How do I make a SEPA / IBAN top up?
Most European and UK banks now give each account holder a unique IBAN. This IBAN number is used as part of the SEPA payment network covering most of Europe. If you have a bank account in Europe or the UK you are able to make a payment.
Information you need to make a SEPA payment:
To make a payment, you must have:
1. The details of the person receiving the payment, including their name and address
2. Their International Bank Account Number (IBAN) or account number
NOTE. IBAN / SEPA payments are only possible in EUR currency
Payment costs and timings vary between countries:
Sending EUR to a European country that is a member of the SEPA network.
This is known as a SEPA payment and usually takes minutes but can occasionally take up to 2 working days.
There is no limit on how much can be sent. You need to use your current account to send or receive a SEPA payment – you may not be able to use a savings account. You must only send the exact amount shown on the payment request. Lower or higher amounts will result in delays as the payment cannot be applied automatically and require manual processing.
The Reference (Pay ID) number to the receiver
The Payment Request will contain a unique Reference Number that MUST be entered when making the top up. If this is missing or incorrect, the system cannot automatically apply the top up to your digital wallet. The Pay ID is your unique Client Reference Number with HowToPay, this is not your invoice number or member number from any other third party documents.
